Any individual who presents with one or more risk factors of PAD, as well as those with active signs/symptoms of PAD, can be referred to us for non-invasive diagnostic testing. This testing will include vascular ultrasound and an ankle-brachial index.

These tests take approximately one hour to complete, and the results are in the hands of referring physicians within 48 hours. The tests include:

Vascular Ultrasound

A non-invasive test that uses sound waves to evaluate the body’s circulatory system and helps to identify any blockages in the arteries and veins.

Ankle-Brachial Index

A non-invasive test that compares the blood pressure measured at your ankle with the blood pressure measured at your arm. This test can indicate if there is any narrowing or blockage of the arteries in your legs that is resulting in decreased blood flow.

Should PAD be discovered, patients are scheduled for a minimally invasive procedure at our clinic. Using innovative 3-D intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) during the procedure, our interventional physicians will measure the narrowing, determine the kind of plaque buildup, and safely remove it before placing stents (when necessary) in order to re-vascularize the area.

Patients are also consulted about additional lifestyle changes that are recommended in order to take a step towards better health. These may include adding exercise to their daily routine, adjusting their diet, gaining control of their blood pressure and high cholesterol, and/or by quitting smoking.

Our Peripheral Vascular Disease Program provides the following services for PAD/PVD treatment:

Angiography (Angioplasty)

A common procedure performed to open up narrowed arteries or blocked vessels to improve blood flow.

Stent Placement

During an angioplasty, a stent may be placed to prop the artery open which in turn decreases the chance of it narrowing again.

A procedure designed to eliminate the build up of plaque in the arteries when patients have more severe narrowing or no flow in the arteries.

Radiofrequency Ablation

A procedure designed to reroute the blood supply from the problematic vein to a healthier vein
